2. Lula, the most popular leader in Brazilian history, was born 73 years ago today. He was born in the semiarid region of Pernambuco, in the town of Caetés, but his birth was only registered on October 27th, the day he normally celebrates his birthday. Lula has a life story marked by fighting for the rights of workers which started in the unions of the ABCD region of greater São Paulo and culminated in his election to two consecutive mandates for President of the Republic (2003-2010) which propelled him into history as the greatest and most popular President Brazil ever had.

PT President, Senator Gleisi Hoffman (Paraná), sent Lula a special message congratulating him on his birthday. “On the day of your official birthday, I am sure that millions of Brazilian men and women would like to give you an affectionate hug.
