Since the award was started in 2001, the honor has been bestowed on 17 people who were imprisoned or in danger due to their political opinions. After Nelson Mandela, Taslima Nasreen and Shirin Ebadi, Lula was awarded the protection of the city of Paris and recognized as a victim of political persecution and an unfair trial. Another Brazilian citizen who received the award was Chief Raoni, in 2011. Read more here: https://pt.org.br/lula-recebe-titulo-de-cidadao-honorario-de-paris/

  1. While thousands of people took to the streets today in defense of national sovereignty, former President Lula debated the theme with the leaders of two important union organizations: José Maria Rangel, the general coordinator of the Unified Petroleum Workers Federation (FUP) and Sérgio Nobre, the general secretary of the Unified Workers Central (CUT) union confederation. They both spoke about activism during a demonstration held at the Lula Livre Vigil. The visit by the two union leaders took place on the day of Petrobras state petroleum company’s 66th anniversary, with no reason to celebrate. The state company is on the subservient sell-off radar of Jair Bolsonaro, the out of control and unpopular president of the Republic. On October 2nd, 2017, former President Lula gave an exclusive interview to the People Hit by Dams (MAB) social movement and Brasil de Fato newspaper during the opening of the movement’s 8th National Meeting. “Two years ago, Lula participated in a protest in defense of national sovereignty at the door of Petrobras in Rio de Janeiro. 1. In an interview on the Migalhas website, recorded on Wednesday, October 2nd, and aired on Thursday, October 3rd, Lula gave a lesson on politics in responding to attacks that were made by the 4th Regional Federal Court (TRF-4) President Victor Laus. With the new book, “Nada Menos que Tudo” by Rodrigo Janot in his hands, he spoke of the revelations made by the former Federal Attorney General, which is being called “a testimony without a plea bargain deal”, in the political world. “I saw the President of the TRF-4 say that I am receiving privileges. This citizen voted to convict me without reading the case. Because if he had read it he wouldn’t have convicted me,” said Lula.
