Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil – 6/22/2018 – 10:25 PM

1. Ex-President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva believes in the chances of the Brazilian Seleção, which is disputing the World Cup, winning its 6th title. But he says, “if we want to be world champions, we have to show better football than what we have showed in the first two games. We still haven’t played well, and the role of the opponent is this: don’t let Brazil play.” In his commentary on the Brazil – Costa Rica game today he also defended Neymar. 2. The #LulaLivre Vigil started the day in a poetic mood on this Friday with participation of the poet Alice Ruiz in the “Good Morning” yell to Lula, who has been held as a political prisoner in Curitiba since April 7th. Widow of the famous poet from Parana, Paulo Leminski, Alice recited her own poems and complimented the resistance activists who were on Olga Benario square in defense of Lula and rescuing Brazilian democracy. After the “Good Morning” yell, the activists in the Vigil met to watch the World Cup game between Brazil and Costa Rica.

3. Evangelical Christian activists from Sorocaba, São Paulo, arrived in the Vigil this morning. They brought a letter for ex-President Lula, which was read to everyone who was on Olga Benario square. “No distance in the world would impede us from coming to give our respect and solidarity for everything that you represent,” says one passage in the letter.

4. Ideli Salvatti, ex-Senator from the PT from Santa Catarina and ex-Minister from the Dilma Rousseff government also visited the Lula Livre Vigil today. In the morning she participated in an activity promoted by the Linhas do Horizonte womans’ group, which is embroidering messages for the ex-President. Ideli also led the “Good Afternoon” yell to Lula. Later that evening the traditional “lights for Lula” act was held, which illuminates the Olga Benario square, as well as an an inter-religious mass and the “Good Night” yell to Lula.

5. The left hand, painted black, makes the popular “L” gesture with thumb and forefinger. In the center, two faces merge and contrast over a red background. Finally, they say Lula Livre. This is a work dedicated to ex-President Lula by the Ecuadoran artist Pavel Èguez, painter, muralist and designer known throughout Latin America for his humanist and political works.
