  1. The Brazilian Federal Public Prosecutors Office sent a legal opinion to the Superior Justice Court in which it affirms that former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has served enough time of his sentence to proceed to a semi-open regime. Lula, however, was convicted without proof and has been held as a political prisoner since April 7, 2018. In a note, the ex-President’s defense team stated that the result they are waiting for is the absolution of Lula, because it is “the only result that is compatible for someone who has not committed any crime.” Read more here: https://pt.org.br/mpf-diz-ao-stj-que-lula-tem-direito-a-progredir-para-regime-semiaberto/

 

  1. Exactly 12 years ago, former President Lula was honored for his fight against hunger. On June 4, 2007, he received the Nehru Prize, which was given to people such as Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Mother Theresa and Indira Gandhi. The “Good Afternoon, President Lula,” shout on this Tuesday, June 4, was led by the President of the National Confederation of Metal Workers from the Unified Workers Central Union Confederation (CUT), Paulo Cayres. Before shouting the greetings, he said that he was recently in Pernambuco where Lula was born, and brought greetings from the people of that state to the former President.   1. This afternoon, the Vigil held a conversation circle about the international political conjuncture and the struggle of the peoples of Latin America. Nalu Ferreira, from the national directorate of the World Woman’s March participated in the debate, along with Colombian Senator Feliciano Valencia, who spoke of the importance of freedom for Lula.   1. This mornings “Good Morning, President,” shout was led by members of the Racism Fighting Collective of the National Education Workers Confederation (CNTE).
