- Former President Lula released a New Year’s letter to the Brazilian people and the world in which he paraphrases Chico Buarque: “Tomorrow will be another day.” In his letter, he speaks of resistance to the period which is arriving. “We won’t lower our heads and we won’t let them take away our happiness to live and fight for better days. - The Lula Livre Vigil was full of emotion, solidarity and democratic resistance on this last day of 2018. Hundreds of activists came in from across the country to be near Lula for the New Years. There was cultural programing during the day and, at night, a political demonstration that was followed by an inter-religious ceremony and a dinner. At the end of the night, the MST held a theater piece which enchanted the crowd. The highlight of the evening was PT President, Senator Gleisi Hoffmann, reading a letter by Lula to the democracy activists of the nation. - The good night shout to ex-President Lula on this final day of the year and 269th day of democratic resistance in Curitiba, was led by MST activist Joine Amâncio. “Let’s give a energetic good afternoon to our President,” he said. The greeting had participants from Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Espirito Santo, Minas Gerais and Bahia.
- The “Good night” shout was led by MST coordinator Roberto Baggio. “We have delegations from across Brazil here,” he said, “let’s give ourselves a round of applause”. The activists complied with his request.
