  1. PT’s candidate for Presidency of the Republic, Fernando Haddad, visited ex-President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva today in the Federal Police headquarters in Curitiba. According to Haddad, Lula praised the campaign strategy that has been adopted to date. The ex-President called for putting the importance of electoral polls in perspective and reinforced the goal of building a country with peace and harmony, centered on all of the Brazilian people, with a focus on jobs and education which are two priority areas for the campaign of Haddad and his VP, Manuela D’Ávila. The former Spanish Prime Minister José Luís Zapatero made an emphatic defense of ex-President Lula. “He promoted a change in the international community in the struggle against hunger and extreme poverty. He increased awareness of climate change. Lula is the heart and soul of the BRICS, a new actor in the multilateral world which is still being built,” he said, in an interview on the Tutameia site. Zapatero believes that a victory of the left in Brazil in the October elections could help form a progressive bloc in Latin America. The Frente Brasil Popular (Brazil People’s Front) released a statement on Monday, September 17, repudiating the levying of a R$3.4 Million fine by the Sé district of the Mayor’s Office against the Free Lula Festival, which took place in São Paulo on Sunday, September 16. The event organizers interpret the the fine as “political prosecution”. The political and cultural event featured artists and activists who exercised their right to protest in defense of freedom for Lula and for Democracy. Rabbi Jayme Fucs Barboza visited ex-President Lula on this Monday, September 17, and spoke with him about Yom Kipur, one of the most important dates in Judaism, which will be celebrated on this Tuesday, September 18. According to the Rabbi, Lula expressed regret that he could not continue the big changes that he implemented, mainly for the working class, the poor and the helpless. “Lula’s dream is return and fulfill the legacy he himself spoke of that has yet to be fulfilled, to bring hope to the Brazilian people, especially the poor,” he said, during an interview, accompanied by Lula Institute founder Cara Ant.
