  1. On Friday, July 13th, union federations, social movements and political parties will hold a day of mobilization against the legal war underway to block the release of ex-President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Pamphlets will be handed out across Brazil and the goal is to hold a warm-up for August 15th, when Lula’s candidacy for the presidency of the Republic will be registered.   1. The PT, social movements, and  labor unions are promoting a big protest march in Brasilia on August 15, to accompany and support the registry of Lula’s candidacy for President of the Republic in the Superior Electoral Court. Thousands of people are expected to participate in the march, which will start in cities on the outskirts of Brasilia and head to the federal capital’s  administrative center.   1. This morning, in a chilly 8°C, the resistance activists at the #LulaLivre Vigil yelled “good morning” to Lula, who has been a political prisoner in the Federal Police headquarters building for 96 days. After the activity there was a round of discussion with union members about the so called labor reforms which, a year after their approval, in addition to not reducing unemployment have fragilized all of the workers’ rights.

 

  1. Today, the #DemocraciaEmRede program had its Union Wednesday, focusing on the effects of the 2016 coup on the working class. Hosted by Márcio Kieller, Secretary of the Paraná chapter of the CUT labor union federation, today’s show featured an interview with Edilson José Gabriel, the federation’s Vice President. The union leader spoke about the conjuncture and the coup’s impacts on the working class.

 

  1. Bank tellers’ union leader Edilson José Gabriel lead the “good afternoon” yell to Lula on Olga Benário square. The afternoon discussion was lead by Joice Aragão, a pediatrician and sanitary specialist from Rio de Janeiro. The theme of the conversation was, “the history of the SUS public health system and it’s authority,” a subject which has acquired special importance at a moment in which the current government is weakening public health policies and giving privileges to private health insurance companies.

 

  1. Sunday, July 15th, marks the 100th day of resistance in the Lula Livre Vigil. It is made up of people who have dedicated three months of their lives to fight the injustice promoted against ex-President Lula. It is also these people who help strengthen the fight for reestablishing democracy in Brazil.
